Trade strange and funny stories with other sales reps.On The Door Step
Reserve the Right to Walk Away
I have done summer sales now for 4 summers and quite honestly my first two summers I found it sometimes hard to stay positive and motivated on the doors. It was during the last month of my second summer selling that I finally figured out a trick. I don't have to talk to people I don't like talking to!
This little truth that I stumbled across gave me a new sense of control. No longer was I only the victim of circumstances. The home owners reserve the right to shut the door on sales representatives whenever they want. The home owners also are ultimately the ones who choose to write or not write my paycheck. In my mind I had little to no power. Until I recognized I don't have to talk to people I don't like talking to!
The next time I found myself talking to someone who I didn't want to talk to, I walked away mid-sentence. I essentially closed the door on the home owner and it felt great!!
The next time you find yourself talking to an annoying, rude, or unbelievably irritating person. Try it, walk away. The first time I walked away, I couldn't help but laugh out loud... it felt great!

Very true.
That is a sweet feeling to close the "door" on them and ruin their plans of being rude to you.
